Photonics
Overview

Photonics is an interdisciplinary field that encompasses the science and technology of generating, manipulating, and detecting photons – the fundamental particles of light.

In early 20th century scientists began exploring the nature of light and its interaction with matter. The discovery of the photoelectric effect by Albert Einstein in 1905 and the development of quantum theory by Max Planck in 1900 laid the foundation for understanding light as both a wave and a particle. These breakthroughs paved the way for the emergence of modern photonics.

Today, Photonics has become an indispensable field due to its vast applications and transformative impact in revolutionizing various sectors. Of late, laser-based therapies, including laser surgery and photodynamic therapy, have completely transformed the medical field. Photonics is instrumental in the design and optimization of energy-efficient lighting systems, such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and solar technology.

Particularly, a paradigm shift has come in the field of Materials and Manufacturing Processing with Photonics. It has upgraded the processes, leading to increased precision, speed, and efficiency. Photonics-based technologies have also enabled the development of advanced materials, such as photonic crystals and metamaterials, with unique optical properties.

Lasers are one of the most prominent applications of photonics.
They emit coherent, monochromatic light with high intensity and directionality, making them invaluable tools in scientific research. The development of laser technologies has seen remarkable advancements over the years.

SIMCO has been working with the world leaders for over 40 years in Lasers. Our Helium Neon Lasers exhibit long life, excellent stability, and field-proven performance. Diode laser modules provide extremely compact and reliable sources of laser light with minimal heat generation and maximum resistance to mechanical shock and vibration. We also supply industry-leading, broad-bandwidth, 12fs ultrafast as well as the industries’ highest power KHz class Ti:Sapphire Lasers in the market today.

Our laser diode portfolio is broad, extending from CW laser diodes to Pulsed Laser Diodes to high-power Laser diodes. For special areas of application LIDAR, vcsels, Quantum cascade, Terahertz sensing etc. are also included in our range of products. We supply compact and reliable turn-key diode laser solutions that work in picosecond pulsed, modulated, or fast-switched (nsec to µsec) operation mode.
